British Fashion Awards

The best of the British turned out last night to support the stars of style at the annual fashion awards at the Royal Courts of Justice.

Hosted by the ever-gorgeous and down-to-earth Lauren Laverne, the ceremony saw designers, models, editors, stylists, and industry VIPs joined by a glamorous line-up of guests including Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova and Dame Vivienne Westwood.

The big winners
Marking the culmination of the British Fashion Council's 25 year celebrations, the ceremony saw Burberry's Christopher Bailey win Designer Of The Year. The chief creative officer and all around style genius was presented with his MBE from The Queen on Monday, and many are speculating on just what the rest of the week will have in store for the current king of UK fashion.

The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator went to creative director of Vogue US and star of The September Issue, Grace Coddington. The flame-haired fashion legend began her career as a junior fashion editor before rising to director at British Vogue, where she created epic and iconic looks throughout the 70s and 80s. In 1988, she moved to New York to join Anna Wintour as creative director at American Vogue and play good cop to the bob-haired bad cop that is Ms Wintour.

Model behaviour
Decided entirely by public vote, the London 25 award was created in celebration of 25 years of British Fashion, to recognise an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for the capital's fashion industry. The winner? None other than style-queen herself, Kate Moss. Representing the next generation of beautiful young things and following on from her appointment as the star of the Spring 2010 Versace Campaign, Georgia May Jagger collected the Model award.

But the biggest cheer went up around bodycon revivor Christopher Kane, who was awarded BFC British Collection Of The Year. As the man who sent normally level-headed women gaga for his summer 2009 collectibles for Topshop, Sky Showbiz agrees that this particular award is richly deserved.
